Chris Figenshau

When we asked adventure sports photographer Chris Figenshau to join the View22 Project this year, we already had a location in mind: the 211-acre property owned by the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort at the base of Rock Springs Canyon, which forms the lower half of a popular backcountry ski run just outside the resort’s southern boundary. Known for his envy and adrenaline-inducing “Photo of the Day” shots of untracked powder and big mountain skiing for JHMR’s social media sites, Chris is also a climber, so Rock Springs was familiar terrain for him. He snapped this shot during the valley’s peak greenness in early (and rainy) July, capturing lifting clouds and sunshine on Rock Springs buttress, and conserved open spaces and ranch lands in the valley below.
